Moscrop Embraces Bike to Work Week

Bike to Work Week, coordinated by HUB (bikehub.ca), happens twice a year—in both spring and autumn. For the autumn 2019 version of the event, Moscrop Secondary logged the most kilometers of any lower mainland school staff team: approximately 804 km. This prevented an estimated 174 kg of greenhouse gasses entering the atmosphere versus commuting by car, helping to lessen the environmental impact of Burnaby schools—a stated goal of the Board of Education’s Strategic Plan.

In addition to reducing their carbon footprint, members of Moscrop’s Bike to Work Week team also set a good example through their commitment to an active lifestyle. At a time at a time when ParticipACTION has given Canadian adults a “D” for physical activity, team Moscrop surely get an “A”, having performed a collective 24,131 calories’ worth of exercise.

For the spring 2020 version of Bike to Work Week, team Moscrop puts forward a friendly challenge to other school staffs to match or better their record!
