Art 8

This course provides the opportunities to work with a large variety of materials and processes. Students will create drawings, paintings, sculptures and clay work! This is the year to discover what type of art you enjoy making the most and next year you can choose just drawing and painting or just sculpture and ceramics. Of course if you love it all then we provide that as well! This is a fun and creative course designed to help you be the best artist you can be!


Art 9/10

This is a studio class that provides opportunity to work with a variety of materials and processes. Drawing, painting, sculpture and clay work will all be explored! Emphasis will be placed on the development of personal imagery and a basic understanding of the elements and principles of art and design. Bring your creative ideas and be prepared to have fun!


Drawing and Painting 9/10

This course will address drawing and painting skill development. Students will learn various drawing and painting techniques and complete many projects! Projects will include watercolour and acrylic painting, pencil/graphite, charcoal and pastel drawing and even some mixed media projects! Art history and contemporary art will be addressed. Students will have a sketchbook and learn how to prepare and record ideas for larger projects.


Ceramics 9/10/11/12

This fine art course is a studio class where students work on individual 3 dimensional projects. The material students will use range from wood, cardboard, styrofoam, wire and other sculptural materials like clay. Students will have an opportunity to work on the potters wheel as both functional and sculptural work will be explored. Students will be evaluated entirely on work done in class, there is little to no homework.


Art Foundation 11/12

This studio course provides an opportunity for continued exploration experience in a variety of 2D and 3D mediums. Students will be engaged in the development of skills related to image creation and individual style. This class will stimulateyour imagination and build your artistic confidence!


Yearbook 11/12

This is a publication course where students are responsible for developing a theme and producing each page of the school yearbook. A keen interest in photography and familiarity with the basic aspects of Photoshop is recommended. This is a demanding course requiring high degree on commitment.


Drawing & Painting 11/12

This cours we will address drawing and painting skill development. Students will learn various drawing and painting techniques and be able to work on developing a personal style and theme. Students will have a sketchbook and learn how to prepared and record ideas for larger projects.


Graphics 11/12

Students explore methods of communicating ideas through images and text. Projects include video production, T shirt printing, projection painting, 3D sculptures as well as work done on Photoshop, Illustrator and Adobe After Effects. This is a studio course where students are marked entirely on work done in class, there is little or no homework.


Photography 11/12

This fine-art course investigates the ethics, theory, and techniques used in creating meaningful photographs and image-based narratives. Students will explore image creation on both phones and DSLRs as well as learn the basics of digital photography workflow and Photoshop. More importantly, this course will allow students to create their own unique photographic vision and approach. Digital cameras will be provided in class.


AP Studio Arts: 2D / 3D / Drawing

Art AP is a challenging, portfolio-based art course for those interested in earning credits at post-secondary institutions. Through the use of class critiques and a constant, conscious questioning of technique and approach, students will produce a 24-piece, first-year-college-level body of work which they can then chose to submit to the Advanced Placement board for adjudication and potential college credit in one of three areas: Drawing, 2D Design, or 3D Sculpture. This is an extremely demanding course and it is recommended that most students spread their workload over grades 11 and 12. Entrance is competitive. Interested applicants must submit a letter of intent and 5 examples of current work before registering.
